# dYdX Alternatives for Trading Bots in 2026

Updated: 24 September 2026 / Tested: 22 September 2026

Aster leads these dYdX alternatives for trading bots at 30.0 of 40, on grid trading
of its own, a published rate limit and 578 markets. EVEDEX follows at
29.1, the one venue here whose strategies the venue wrote itself. Leverage magnifies
every gap.

## Seven dYdX alternatives for trading bots, ordered by the site score

dYdX has no place in this ranking because it is the venue being left; its own readings sit in the book
table below.

| # | Venue | Score of 40 | Maker / taker | Perp markets | Model |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Aster | 30.0 | 0% / 0.040% | 578 | Own layer 1, operator-run |
| 2 | EVEDEX | 29.1 | 0.015% / 0.045% | 52 | Hybrid |
| 3 | Lighter | 28.6 | 0% / 0% | 214 | Hybrid, ZK-proven |
| 4 | Extended | 27.5 | 0% / 0.025% | 325 | Hybrid |
| 5 | ApeX Omni | 27.0 | 0.020% / 0.050% | 125 | Hybrid |
| 6 | Hyperliquid | 24.8 | 0.015% / 0.045% | 324 | On-chain order book |
| 7 | edgeX | 24.3 | 0.040% / 0.045% | 172 | Hybrid |

Facts as of 18 September 2026; entry-tier fees on the BTC perpetual. Access differs by country.

## Read-offs

1. Automation is the heaviest dial at 24 of the hundred: one venue here wrote its own strategies, two ship a grid, four run a vault, and dYdX's own answer is a market-making vault.
2. Depth: all seven held more BTC depth within 10 basis points than dYdX's $848,659; edgeX held $29.3 million.
3. The exit: three of the seven document a withdrawal that skips the operator; dYdX gates withdrawals for 50 blocks after an outage.

## 1. [Aster](https://www.asterdex.com) — best for the widest market list here

Score 30.0.

The Pro book has charged nothing on the maker side for every tier since 2 February 2026 (Aster
documentation, read 18 September 2026). A $1,000,000 order would have paid
1.26 bps against it, on the tightest median spread of the eight at
0.01 bps, a reading Lighter matched.

- Works: 578 perpetual markets across six asset classes; An Immunefi bug bounty of up to $200,000.
- Falls short: Core chain contracts are closed-source, and phase one runs without external validators; Published audits cover the vault and stablecoin contracts, not the chain or the matching engine.
- Not for: traders who want the matching engine itself audited.

## 2. EVEDEX — for bots that ship with the book

Score 29.1.

EVEDEX is a hybrid perpetual futures exchange: matching off-chain, settlement on-chain on
Arbitrum, a position reaching that chain in batches rather than one write per fill (the EVEDEX
documentation we read on 18 September 2026). Its BTC book held a median $19.0 million, and
four strategies of its own run on the BTC, ETH, SOL and XRP perpetuals, each with a capacity cap
in USDT published against it.

- Works: Four strategies the venue wrote itself, parameterised rather than coded; Median BTC depth of $19.0 million, second only to edgeX here.
- Falls short: Reduce-only is documented nowhere, and post-only appears in the interface specification as a bare field with no values and no stated behaviour; 52 perpetual markets against 578 on the widest venue here; No bug bounty listed on CertiK Skynet when we read it on 18 September 2026.
- Not for: rotation strategies that need hundreds of markets.

## 3. [Lighter](https://lighter.xyz) — best for a free round trip

Score 28.6.

The Standard account trades at 0% maker / 0% taker and pays for it in time: 300 ms on taker
orders, bought back by a Premium tier ([Lighter docs](https://docs.lighter.xyz/trading/trading-fees.md), checked 18 September 2026).
Its BTC book held a median $17.4 million, twenty times the dYdX reading.

- Works: Zero maker and taker on the Standard account, where dYdX takers pay 0.050%; Nine security reviews, and an exit queue on Ethereum if the sequencer stalls.
- Falls short: The free tier is deliberately slower, 300 ms of taker latency against 140 ms; No public bug bounty in the documentation we read.
- Not for: latency-sensitive quoting.

## 4. [Extended](https://extended.exchange/) — best for a bounty behind the book

Score 27.5.

Two audits and a bounty of up to $500,000 leave Extended tied with Aster on the security
criterion, on a book charging 0% maker / 0.025% taker to every account (Extended documentation,
read 18 September 2026).

- Works: Bug bounty of up to $500,000, and no volume tier to reach for the 0% maker fee; 325 perpetual markets against 78 on dYdX.
- Falls short: 278 of those markets are quoted on request, and the book shown for them is indicative; Deposits over Ethereum use a third-party bridge; a large withdrawal can take up to 4 hours.
- Not for: sizing off a displayed book in an on-request market.

## 5. [ApeX Omni](https://omni.apex.exchange/) — best for a documented force withdrawal

Score 27.0.

ApeX Omni proves its matches to zkLink contracts and documents a force-withdrawal path to layer 1
for the day the operator stops answering (zkLink documentation, read 18 September 2026). Its BTC
book held a median $1.7 million, twice the dYdX reading.

- Works: Force withdrawal to layer 1, documented in the contracts holding deposits; The narrowest list of excluded places here.
- Falls short: 0.050% taker, matching dYdX and the dearest of the seven; Published audits cover the zkLink infrastructure from 2023, not the ApeX Omni engine.
- Not for: takers crossing the spread hundreds of times a day.

## 6. [Hyperliquid](https://hyperliquid.xyz) — best for the same design at scale

Score 24.8.

Hyperliquid keeps its book on a chain of its own too, writing every order, trade and liquidation
there (Hyperliquid documentation, read 18 September 2026). It carried $8.7 billion of
open interest on CoinMarketCap on 22 September 2026, against $37.3 million for dYdX.

- Works: $13.4 billion of 24-hour volume on CoinMarketCap, 22 September 2026; Bounty of up to 1 million USDC, the only cap here matching dYdX.
- Falls short: Its own vault absorbed about $4.9 million in the November 2025 POPCAT episode; 146 of its 324 markets are deployed by builders, not reviewed by the operator.
- Not for: strategies that treat every listed market as vetted.

## 7. [edgeX](https://pro.edgex.exchange) — best for moving size cheaply

Score 24.3.

edgeX carried a median $29.3 million of depth inside 10 basis points; the same $100,000
order cost 0.02 bps there and 6.79 bps on dYdX. Its self-custody page
documents on-chain withdrawals that bypass the operator (edgeX documentation, read
18 September 2026).

- Works: The deepest book of the eight we read, at $29.3 million; Six security reviews, and a withdrawal that does not need the operator.
- Falls short: 0.040% maker fee, the dearest here; Its own pages disagree on the rate: the help centre still shows a schedule older than 0.040% maker / 0.045% taker.
- Not for: maker-heavy strategies that rarely cross the spread.

## Book readings

| Venue | Round trip on $10,000 | Median spread | Depth, 10 bps | Impact, $100,000 order | Snapshots |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| dYdX | $10.00 | 1.97 bps | $848,659 | 6.79 bps | 117 |
| Lighter | $0.00 | 0.01 bps | $17.4 million | 0.67 bps | 57 |
| Extended | $5.00 | 0.12 bps | $7.7 million | 0.06 bps | 57 |
| Aster | $8.00 | 0.01 bps | $14.6 million | 0.52 bps | 117 |
| edgeX | $9.00 | 0.04 bps | $29.3 million | 0.02 bps | 117 |
| Hyperliquid | $9.00 | 0.12 bps | $8.1 million | 0.06 bps | 117 |
| ApeX Omni | $10.00 | 0.68 bps | $1.7 million | 0.39 bps | 117 |
| EVEDEX | $9.00 | 4.12 bps | $19.0 million | 2.06 bps | 117 |

## What the books said about dYdX

dYdX v4 keeps its order book in validator memory and commits matches on its own chain rather than on
Ethereum ([dYdX docs](https://docs.dydx.xyz/concepts/architecture/overview), checked 18 September 2026). What changed is the readings: its BTC book
held a median $848,659 within 10 bps of mid, and a market order would have paid
2.65 bps at $10,000, 6.79 bps at $100,000 and
11.47 bps at $1,000,000, the widest impact curve of the eight books we read.

Then the record. On 10 October 2025 the chain stopped, and prices that had gone stale on the
oracle came back into a restart that mispriced trades and liquidated positions; $462,097.79 in
trader losses went forward as a compensation claim whose approval we could not confirm
([dYdX incident review](https://www.dydx.xyz/blog/october-2025-dydx-chain-incident-review-community-update),
read 18 September 2026). A stoppage of five minutes or more puts withdrawals behind a rate limit
and a 50-block gate, which is to say the exit tightens exactly when a strategy wants it.

None of that makes dYdX a poor venue. Its maker fee is 0.010%, lower than four of the
seven below, and a Cantina bug bounty has offered up to $1,000,000 for a critical report since
8 May 2026.

## Why the order is the site's own

A reader who names a venue has chosen the condition already, so the order here is the site formula
applied to what is left. The seven cleared the floor the main board uses, more than $50 million of
24-hour volume in the CoinMarketCap derivatives ranking for decentralised exchanges on
22 September 2026. dYdX clears it at $87.8 million; Paradex ($21.8 million) and Aevo
($7.7 million) do not. Oracle-priced venues fill from a pool, so the liquidity criterion has
nothing to read. No score was recomputed here.

## Where every figure on this panel came from

Eight criteria, fixed 23 September 2026 and run over the 7 venues on this page
([how we rate](/rating-method)). Fee schedules, market counts, settlement and access terms are each
venue's own published wording, read 18 September 2026; what a venue automates and what its order
interface documents were read on 23 September 2026. Depth, spread and impact are our readings, taken
at ten-minute spacing, the last reading dated 22 September 2026.

One market, BTC, one machine, one loop of the books. Entry-tier fees ignore volume tiers and
cashback. An audit records a review, not safety. Open interest and 24-hour volume are self-reported
and republished by CoinMarketCap.

## FAQ

### What is the closest alternative to dYdX?

Hyperliquid, on design: each runs its own chain behind the order book. On the readings they
differ sharply. edgeX held $29.3 million within 10 basis points against dYdX's
$848,659, and Lighter charges nothing at the entry tier where dYdX takers pay
0.050%.

### Why are traders looking for dYdX alternatives?

Three reasons show up in our figures. The book is thin next to its peers, at $848,659
within 10 basis points. The entry-tier taker fee is 0.050%, matched here only by ApeX
Omni. And the chain halted on 10 October 2025.

### What happened to dYdX in October 2025?

The chain stopped producing blocks during the 10 October crash, and after the restart stale oracle
prices caused mispriced trades and liquidations. dYdX identified $462,097.79 of trader losses and
proposed paying them from its insurance fund; that approval we could not verify.

### Which exchange has lower fees than dYdX?

Six of the seven charge a taker less than the 0.050% dYdX asks at its entry tier. On
a $10,000 round trip that is $10.00 against $0.00 on Lighter,
$5.00 on Extended and $8.00 on Aster. ApeX Omni alone matches
dYdX.

### Does dYdX have deeper liquidity than other perp DEXes?

Not in our window. Its BTC book held $848,659 within 10 basis points of mid, thinnest
of the eight books on this page, polled to 22 September 2026; edgeX held $29.3 million and
EVEDEX $19.0 million. Open interest agrees, at $37.3 million on CoinMarketCap,
22 September 2026.

### How long do dYdX withdrawals take?

Normally minutes, but two limits apply. Withdrawals of bridged USDC are rate-limited each hour,
and every transfer is gated for 50 blocks once an outage of five minutes or more has happened
(dYdX documentation, read 18 September 2026). Three venues here document an exit needing no
operator.

### Can I move a trading bot from dYdX to another exchange?

The order logic moves; the assumptions do not. Fee, tick size, margin ladder and the depth resting
at your size all change, and a strategy sized against $848,659 behaves differently
against $29.3 million. Re-run the cost model before it trades unattended.

### Is dYdX still the largest perp DEX?

No, and not close. On CoinMarketCap on 22 September 2026 dYdX carried $37.3 million of open
interest and $87.8 million of 24-hour volume, against $8.7 billion and
$13.4 billion for Hyperliquid and $1.4 billion for Aster. Those figures are
self-reported by each venue.

### Do I need KYC to trade on dYdX or its alternatives?

On all eight venues here the first trade needs a wallet signature rather than a document, and
several accept an email that creates a wallet. Terms still exclude sanctioned persons and named
places, and some venues screen deposits on-chain before crediting them.

### How many markets does dYdX list?

78 perpetual markets were active on its own public endpoint on
18 September 2026, silver, a gold token and crude oil among them, and 218 more sit in final
settlement. Six of the seven venues here list more, from 125 to
578; EVEDEX lists 52.
